NEWCOMER ADVISORY COUNCIL

Abdul is originally from Nigeria. He relocated to Canada about 8 years ago and is now a Canadian citizen. He has been of great help to many new immigrants by providing support and guidance. He is a Fellow Institute of Cost and Management Accountant and Fellow Institute of International Accountant, Nigeria to date. He worked in one of the largest mining companies in Africa for 14 years before coming to Canada. He now works in the financial sector as a sales specialist.

He has been involved in various community activities and with various organizations:

• Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF)
• Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-oriented Research (SCPOR) – Patient/Family Advisory
• 2017 Canada Day event by the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council
• He is presently a member of Prairie Skies’ Immigration Advisory Table

I’m originally from Mexico, a beautiful country full of culture and traditions.
I love cooking and discovering new places. I enjoy traveling to different countries to learn new things and meet new people.

That’s how I ended up living in Canada. After discovering this country, I realized it would be the best place to settle for a while — and it’s been more than 10 years now!

During this time, I’ve worked in different fields, most of them related to customer service.
I have a degree in Science Education and in English as a Second Language, which has given me the opportunity to join the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council — an organization that shares my passion for service.

As a Community Connections Coordinator, I have the opportunity to connect newcomers with services available in the city, while also raising awareness of their needs among different organizations in the community.

I’ve been part of the Prairie Skies Integration Network for a few years now, and I hope to continue as long as I’m able — to keep helping newcomers who, like me, sometimes experience challenges when moving to a new country. It’s important for them to know that they’re not alone, and that organizations like Prairie Skies are here to support and welcome them.

Dr. Michael Anyaegbunam is a Social Psychologist with over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and community engagement at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State, Nigeria, West Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and has published extensively on topics related to community, cultural, and social psychology. Currently based in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, he contributes to the Prairie Skies Integration Network as a volunteer research member, supporting projects that promote inclusion, newcomer integration, and community development. Dr. Anyaegbunam is passionate about applying evidence-based research to foster equitable and welcoming communities for all residents.

Experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background leading manufacturing processes in steel pipe industry in Colombia. Guided by lean Six Sigma methodology to provide continuous improvement in quality assurance/control, productivity, machine utilization, and workplace safety. Hands-on experince implementing GMP and HACCP to ensure food safety & quality. Immigrated to Canada in February 2023 with his family to study a postgraduate certificate in Project Management at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Moose Jaw campus.
